The Insurance Services Office (ISO) is a third-party agency that evaluates, among other things, cities.  This evaluation is used by insurance companies and agents to rate home-owners fire insurance.  The better the evaluation from ISO, the lower the home-owner's insurance rate.  ISO evaluates cities in three major catagories:  Fire Protection (50%), Water Supply (40%), and Alarm and Communication (10%).  As you see, the fire protection portion is half of the overall rating.

The rating received from ISO is on a scale of 1-10.  The lower the number, the better the rating.  The City of Bolivar was last rated (about 15 years ago) as an ISO Class 6 city.  Our goal is for this recent evaluation to yield a Class 4 designation.  This reduction in rating could save the citizen's of Bolivar around 10% of their current property insurance costs.  (This estimate is based on both residential and commercial building rates received from local insurance agents at different ISO ratings.  Note: half of the insurance companies surveyed had no savings between a Class 6 to a Class 5 ISO.  For your specific savings, please contact your local insurance agent.)
